NO FUN FEST 2007

Anyone gonna be there?  I am only going because I need to see Keiji Haino, Pain Jerk and Incapacitants.  I am also curious to see how Yoshimi and Kim Gordom will sound, and I am excited to see Merzbow if the rumours are true he will be performing analogue material.

Non Japanese performers I am super excited to see:

I'm particularly interested to know about the Merzbow and Keiji Haino sets - what did either of them do and how was it?

Anyone spotted any photos floating about yet?

My contacts tell me the house was packed for both sets. Haino started with a quiet ethnic guitar piece with some vocals, presumably to annoy the audience. Then he ripped into electric guitar mode, about 15 minutes worth of air synth, and then wrapping up with 10 minutes of looped and layered vocals. The set was around 45 minutes.
Merzbow apparently started on the laptop then started adding analogue stuff over the top.

Both sets were greeted by rowdy and very drunk moshpits...

I just want to mention that the audience was for the most part CLUELESS in regards to how to respond to Keiji Haino.  Basically, they were moshing during a ritual.  I was severely irritated and embarassed by their behavior.

If you watch the YouTube video of the first part of his performance you can hear a loud cry of "what the fuck".  You would think someone attending No Fun Fest would be at least aware of basically what to expect from Haino-san but apparently not...

i would give my eye teeth to see keiji haino, but the drunken rowdy mosh pits would definitely be a factor.  anyways, new to this forum and i think it's great.  i was able to order the sachiko cd as a result of info I found here so thanks

Welcome coms2, it's always good to have new faces.

I'd doubt that rowdy audiences would be the norm for Keiji Haino, in fact I would expect that most of the time the kind of audience you would get at a gig of his would be relatively serious and respectful (perhaps even overly so). Though I have to admit that this is more speculation than observation, as I've only seen him live once. My thinking just comes from my bias and sense of the kind of person he would attract to an event.

it's probably just the Japanese but if you watch the Fushitsusha DVD, the audience is motionless.  tthat would be my preference. Standing still in front of a hurricane.
